Evan Currie’s Odyssey One is the best sci-fi series I have ever read. I must admit, I read the entire series in book format and only listened to the first in the Odyssey One series, Into the Black, on audiobook.
Calling the Odyssey One series “bubblegum scifi” might sound insulting or raise a few eyebrows, but that is exactly what this is. Easy to read, Evan Currie’s Odyssey One is not a hardcore, difficult to follow space opera, but very entertaining and very epic. If Star Trek : First Contact and Starship Troopers ever had a child, this would be it. The fast moving, action packed novels are set in the not-too-distant future, which makes it almost believable in a sense. Author Evan Currie is definitely a tech nerd who knows his stuff, but he does not overwhelm his readers with far-fetched concepts. The technology used in the audiobook series is technology actively being researched and pursued today. The Odyssey One series also doesn’t suffer from what I call “character overload”, where there are so many characters that the story is difficult to follow, something so many space operas suffer from.
If you are looking to get into science fiction, or you’re just looking for an easy to read sci-fi series, I cannot recommend Evan Currie’s Odyssey One audiobook series enough.
